ASEAN S&T Fellow leads the Joint Research on PREK System, Cambodia

As part of ASEAN Science and Technology Fellow 2018/2019 from Cambodia, Dr. Chhuon Kong leads the joint research on PREK System between Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) representative in Cambodia and Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology of Cambodia (MOWRAM). The PREK system is a small stream flow to the river and become an important source of irrigation to the paddy field and crop fields alongside.


Our ASEAN S&T Fellow, Dr. Kong deals with the research coordination and joint conduct research activities.

The study aims to understand the complex system of hydrology and water usage by the farmers in order to improve the water governance and build climate resilience for the water user communities. This is also aligns with the project on rehabilitation of the system and installation of regulated water gate in the PREK area located in Kandal Province of Cambodia by MOWRAM with the support from Agence Française de Développement (AFD).

This PREK system has become and important source of irrigation.
